Green limitation
interactive installation
2015
Material: styrofoam and plactic
Size: 300cm x 150cm
If you take a walk around downtown Cairo, you’ll notice the existence of an expensive looking dark green iron fence with golden ornaments. The fence was first built late 90s to early 2000s to limit the movement of the people and prevent them from trespassing specific areas. 15 years later, the visual of the fence now constitutes a social restraint to the citizens of Cairo.
The heavy looking fence demarcates certain areas where people are locked inside much like a zoo. My project titled Green limitation involves reestablishing an exact replica of one cell from the fence in a public area to control the movement through and around the 1-celled fence. I will attempt to incorporate resonance of human insurgents such as the scribbles, torn posters, inscriptions and traces (Images from the actual fence) of people attempting to trespass the fence.
