Egyptian Dinosaur

Video art

2016

Duration : 1:05 min

Egypt is ranked among the fifteen slowest countries for Internet speed, as Egyptians we spend more time trying to log on than actually use the Internet network. For Google Chromers, once disconnected we invest our time playing an offline dinosaur game that the Chrome developers thought would be of better use to our time than waiting to reconnect.  The game involves a dinosaur skipping cactus plants in what implies a desert. My project is a looping animation of the game after replacing the cactus with a number of items and visuals related to the Egyptian culture.  items such as the green fence located mostly in downtown, which I used in my previous project titled ‘Green limitation.’ Other items are the Cairo tower, Sakara pyramid, Maspiro building, ditches, etc.

At the time when the world is mostly depending on the Internet Egyptians are still struggling with a 2 MB speed. Thus, the prehistoric creature is relocated in my work in a contemporary Egyptian setup.
